The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) is a renowned regional intergovernmental learning and knowledge-sharing center, established in 1981. It serves the eight countries of the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region—Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Pakistan. The HKH region, a vast and diverse area, spans from the Hindu Kush range in northern Afghanistan to the Arakan range in Myanmar, with the Himalayan range at its core. This also includes the Tibetan Plateau.
ICIMOD’s mission is to foster partnerships among these regional countries, working toward securing a sustainable and prosperous future for both the people and the environment of the HKH region. The center is headquartered in Khumaltar, Lalitpur, in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal, and operates a Knowledge Park in Godavari, Lalitpur, showcasing practical applications of its research.
ICIMOD actively collaborates with national and international scientific institutions, government bodies, donor agencies, and the private sector, creating a wide network of partnerships. It also has country offices in Afghanistan and Pakistan, further expanding its regional presence and impact.
